YIAGA Africa AFRICA’s #WatchingTheVote builds National Structure to observe the 2019 General Elections

WatchingTheVote (WTV) has successfully built a National Structure to observe the 2019 Elections.
All is set for the Observation of 2019 general elections after WTV successfully recruited and trained 48 State Focal Points across all the 36 States of Nigeria. The SFPs who were trained on Parallel Vote Tabulation methodology of election observation will be representing the projects ahead of the 2019 elections.
Speaking during the PVT academy in Abuja, YIAGA Africa’s Executive Director Samson Itodo said, citizen observers should not take anything for granted ahead of the 2019 elections. According to him, no matter how we think our elections are becoming credible. “As defenders of democracy, we must build a framework that helps keep in check Nigeria’s Electoral Democracy”, he said
For the 2019 presidential election, the YIAGA WTV will conduct a PVT drawing on statistical principles and using information technology to provide systematic data on the quality of Election Day processes and to verify the accuracy of the official results.
To achieve this, YIAGA will recruit, train and deploy accredited observers to specific polling units in every LGA in the 36 State to systematically collate and rapidly share their reports via coded SMS (text) messages with the WTV Data Centre where the data is analyzed and findings shared with the public.
