Nigeria’s elections have over time been riddled with an increasing rate of electoral offences beginning in the pre-election phase to the post-election phase. The spate of Electoral offences has, however, not been met by an effective system of prosecution of offenders. This has enabled a culture of impunity with severe consequences on the quality of election in Nigeria. From the buying and selling of Permanent Voters Cards to electoral violence, voters and citizens, in general, have been subjected to negative experiences in the process of participating in elections. This considerably impacts the conduct and integrity of future elections, particularly as it relates to citizens’ confidence in the electoral process.
